Kristof

Kristof Mateusen

Born in 1976, self-taught renaissance man Kristof Mateusen became very early on in his life enamored with the cinematic art and decided to learn as much as humanly possible about it.

While graduating as a civil engineer – architect he wrote a transdisciplinary thesis about the relation between film and modern society. This acclaimed study dissected film noir as an urban mythology.

Kristof is one of the founding members of Fifth Floor Film. He currently resides in Oud – Turnhout, Belgium with his wife and two kids.

Selected Films

Donnie Darko – A unique mix of teenage drama, horror and science fiction elements combined into a mind-boggling film whose complexity sustains multiple viewings.

Hero (Ying xiong) – Derided by some critics as being a Chinese Triumph des Willens, this movie features elegantly choreographed fight scenes, a bold use of colors and epic cinematography, all assimilated into the greater whole.

Pan’s Labyrinth – If the Lord of the Rings trilogy gave birth to fantasy film as a viable genre, then this film brought it to maturation in a perfect wedding between the horror of war and the dark side of fairy tales.

Frederic

Frederic Cervini

Frederic, with an artistic mother and an engineer as a father, has always enjoyed the technical as well as the practical side of photography. Although he has a fair interest in science, film making remains his passion.

Graduating as industrial engineer he felt that he needed to get back in touch with the artistic side of technology and continued his studies to obtain a MSc in Computer Animation at Bournemouth University.

After working for four years in the London Visual Effects Industry where he worked on movies such as Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory he returned back to Turnhout, Belgium to start his own post production company called Refractor.
